MISSION STATEMENT
In Anna's Words
When I graduated from Oak Grove High School, I had big dreams of making a difference. I set off to college, then law school, and eventually made my way to Capitol Hill. Like many young people, I believed I had to leave home to make an impact.
But several years later, I found myself back in Hattiesburg—unsure of my next step and discouraged that I might never fulfill a greater purpose. So I did what I always do when I need honest advice: I went to my Grandmom Kit’s back porch. She told me to “keep your head down, work hard, and grow where you’re planted.”
I got to work building my own law firm. I’ve had the honor of serving as the prosecutor for the City of Hattiesburg and as a court-appointed parent defender. My legal career brought me face-to-face with families in crisis and people navigating their hardest moments. Helping others in those situations has been a profound privilege.
I got involved wherever I could—supporting the arts, championing downtown Hattiesburg, and stepping into leadership roles in my profession. The more I invested in my community, the more I fell in love with it. I’ve worked alongside passionate, talented people who believe deeply in what Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt can become with the right energy, resources, and leadership.
In keeping my head down I almost missed the opportunity right in front of me: a newly redrawn Senate district that includes my home. Friends and community leaders urged me to run, but I was hesitant to get into the messy world of politics. I wished I could run the decision by Grandmom Kit, who passed away last year. Luckily, I can still hear her, clear as day: “Buck up. If the fellas can do it, so can you. I made sure you were made of stronger stuff.”
So, I’m running for Mississippi State Senate District 45.
I pledge to keep my head down and stay focused. I pledge to work hard for all my constituents. And, if elected, I pledge to help grow this district and our state—right here, where I’m planted.
